When to clean my dryer and vent?

If you clothes are taking longer than 30 minutes to dry for a normal load. If your dryer gets real warm or hot to the touch while drying clothes. If the airflow from your outside vent is blowing weak.

I cleaned the lint screen isn't that enough?

You are definitely doing the right thing by cleaning out the lint screen and hopefully you are doing this each time. The problem is over a period of time lint will get past the lint screen and accumulates in the dryer and vent. This needs to be cleaned out periodically.

1) How many loads of laundry you do.

2) What kind of laundry you wash: Such as towels, diapers, things that produce lots of lint.

3) How long is the vent system.

4) How many turns are there in your vent system. **** To be safe it is suggested to have your dryer and vent cleaned every 12 to 14 months. If you are drying 3 to 4 loads per day it needs to be cleaned more often. For you and your family's safety it is suggested having it cleaned every 8 to 12 months, if drying 3 to 4 loads a day.

Why not just replace the vent?

Because many homes don’t have a short 5' to 10' section of vent running from the dryer to the basement window. Many homes and condominium complexes have a 20' to 50' vent pipe that is installed behind walls and ceilings. Most of which have 2 or 3 bends. It is not possible to replace these vents. Also, many homeowners do not feel comfortable replacing the vent themselves or can’t physically do it.

Another important point is that even if the vent is replaced, it is equally important to properly remove lint build-up from within the dryer and also around the dryer.
